"Adele Bernal my wonderful grandmother, who lived to be 96 years old, on my father’s side of the family. Why? Grandma Bernal shared her wisdom with me. She raised three boys during the depression and at the age of 76 had her first poem published in a book of poetry. More importantly, she taught me to PERSEVERE! It was her favorite word.
Valentina Bernal, my dear mom, now 81 years old who was born on Saint Valentine’s Day. Mom taught me that you must keep your sense of humor. It will help you through your darkest hours; if you can learn to tap into humor at that very moment you are so consumed with despair – no amount of money could ever be as valuable. Mom cooked, bathed, ironed, deep-cleaned her house with PineSol, and raised seven children."
