"I admire my mother, Alina, who at the age of 20 left her husband, her family, her country, with a 10-month old daughter to start a new life in the United States. And even though she did not have possessions and did not speak the language, this new life was full of promise, hope, and freedom. It took much courage and determination to do what she did, and I will forever be grateful. Thank you, Mom."
