"I admired my mother, Maud Gordon, most. She was a remarkable, brilliant, loving woman, so powerful and yet unassuming; she displayed a quiet efficiency. My mother had the uncanny knack for problem solving, organization, creativity and finding the balance between what was important in life and how to apply the lessons we learn to our everyday lives. She treated her four children equally and could always be relied upon. Though she is no longer with us - she passed at 106 years of age - I see the lessons she taught being employed by many of her grand and great-grand children as they live their young lives.
I also admired my grandmother ("G") who was born in a time when modernization of ideas and life was just a work in progress. She provided the foundation for my father to be inventive with ideas and subsequently cause them to materialize. My father was born at a time when it was better to be subdued with one's existence, yet he found a way to take his place in the world for himself and his family, applying tolerance and yet have a balanced life. "G" was always a source and reference point for him, with unique approaches to life's most difficult situations."
March is Women's History Month. To celebrate and honor women, I'm posting a different woman's photograph each day during March and on into April.
