"Helen Burwell, Dean of Girls at my high school, set very high standards for campus attire and demeanor. I've never forgotten her and the strong impression she made on me. She set the bar high and brooked no nonsense. A hallway encounter might easily engender an order to drop to the knees and maintain erect posture to ensure that one's skirt touched the floor - that was her litmus test for whether a skirt was too short. Girls did not wear trousers to school in those days!"
March is Women's History Month. To celebrate and honor women, I'm posting a different woman's photograph each day during March and on into April.
